The best known and most widespread type of aramid fiber is Kevlar, patented in 1971 by DuPont. These fibers are characterized by a high tensile strength (3600 MPa, comparable to that of carbon fibers and approximately 10 times higher than that of steel), by a low specific weight (which leads to a greater specific resistance compared to carbon) and above all by a high resistance to cuts and impacts (it is no coincidence that they are used in bulletproof vests).
